How to Import Devices to the Portal
Step 1.
Navigate to this panel and go to the menu on the left side of your screen, then select the “Device” option.
Step 2.
To import the devices, go to the top right corner of the view and press the “Options” button, then the “Import” button.
Step 3.
The Import form will be displayed, and the only thing to do is press the “Choose File” button, which will open the device File Manager and prompt the user to select the import file. Before uploading an import file, please refer to Step 4 to prepare the import file that will be uploaded.
Step 4.
This step is to prepare the import file, which is a spreadsheet to upload to the portal. The import file contains the following columns:
- S.No: Number of the record.
- Account (Pin): The account name and pin in parentheses indicate where the device belongs.
- Device ID: Unique identifier of the device.
- Device Name: The name of the device.
- Device Type: The type of device.
- Device Brand: The brand name of the device, which can be an iPhone or Android.
- Tags: The tags associated with the device—if the device has more than one—will be shown comma-separated.
- Description: The description of the device
- Phone Number: The phone number of the device
- Email ID: An email address.
- Personnel: The personnel assigned to the device in the account; if there are multiples, they will be separated by commas.
Some of the columns are not strictly required, like description, phone number, and email ID. However, there are two columns that are special because they have prerequisites before importing the information to the portal. The columns are Tags and Personnel; these columns need to first have already created Tags or Personnel in the target account, but they can be empty, letting the user just import the device with Device ID, Device Name, Device Type, and the Device Brand, which are the minimum required fields to import a device to the portal.
Step 5.
After preparing the import file and following what was shown in Step 3, upload the recently modified import file to the import form, and after pressing the blue “Import File” button, the device should be uploaded.
A message should pop up in the top right corner of the screen saying that the file was successfully imported, and the device(s) should be listed as inactive devices ready to be activated.
Step 6.
To activate a device(s), the checkbox before the device name in the first column should be marked, and then by going to the top right corner of the screen and pressing the “Options” button and selecting the “Activate” option, all the selected devices should be activated right away.
Another message will show saying that the device(s) were successfully activated and ready to be used.
